-Br. Ignacio and James
Br. Ignacio Gonzalez
Br. Ignacio González, OSB is a proud Texan who “left one capital for the other” when he left his native Austin for Washington, DC. He is also a veteran of the United States Marine Corps whose training prepared him well for life as a monk. In 2008, after a “long and winding road,” he entered the monastery of St. Anselm in northeast DC where, with his monastic brothers, he encounters Our Lord daily in so many ways. He also teaches at the Abbey School, passing on what has been handed down through the centuries.
Br. Ignacio loves being a monk in which Benedictines have had a long and close association with good beer!
All in moderation, of course, but we must never forget that Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly! [John 10:10]

James V. Grimaldi
James V. Grimaldi: For Father’s Day some years ago, James Grimaldi’s sons gave him a growler from Washington’s DC Brau. That opened up a whole new world him -- the city’s burgeoning craft brewery scene -- and eventually inspired an annual Brew Tour to raise money for St. Anselm’s Abbey School’s scholarship fund. Now, James Grimaldi is pleased to help coordinate the Washington chapter of CBC as part of his other charitable activities, which include volunteering as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Peter’s Church on Capitol Hill. Along with other St. Peter’s parishoners, he also makes monthly culinary donations to So Others Might Eat soup kitchen and Christ House homeless shelter in Adams Morgan. A native of Kansas City, Mo., and a product of Jesuit education, he has lived in Washington for more than two decades.
